Eclipse season continues. Act II, which is even more dramatic and dazzling. Maybe some of the biggest peaks and some of the grayest time of 2024, so nearly everyone will be leaving April a different person.
Here with the eclipse in the sign of Aries, we observe desire and the bravery towards it. Our desire is more powerful than the fear of rejection. To allow for action to bubble forward, in front of self-reflection, self-consciousness.
On the other side, there is the outburst, the explosion, the unbridled anger that flows between fists, weapon and target.
For most of the month, Mercury is retrograde in Aries. We are bound to speak up, possibly a little too much. Aries is normally direct, almost too bold, but because this year its ruler Mars is in Pisces, I wonder if things are overtly roundabout, purposefully vague, a little too energized by what is unsubstantiated. Have you ever accused someone of a transgression that happened in a dream?
The April 8th eclipse shows a Sun and Moon in Aries ruled by a Mars conjoined Saturn in Pisces. I draw your attention again to the aforementioned passive-aggressiveness, hidden cards, unspoken feelings, bursting out in unkindness. At the same time, there is a sense of bravery to face the murkiness and a commitment to some possible new future. The exact Mars-Saturn conjunction is on the 11th, so I sense that this week from the 5th to the 12th is knotted up in frustrations and conflicts that seem difficult to undo. Additionally, the 12th features a Mercury cazimi, which, in normal times, heralds clarity. But, I don’t see this as a clarity that lightens the load but a clarity that allows you to see without distorted lenses where you are limited. Scared to see where you are limiting yourself, perhaps.
After this, there is one of the biggest events of the year on April 20-21st, Jupiter conjoins Uranus in Taurus. This is a moment of ingenuity, sparking up new meetings and ideas that have the power to take hold of a collective imagination. I don’t know if this is a signature that we will recognize as it takes place, sometimes things of this magnitude need time for people to process and then fold into the writing of history. I would spend some time around these days to really think about the big ideas that are prerequisite to the structures you want to live in.
On April 24th, the Scorpio Full Moon shows up to align our feelings and convictions with these sweeping changes going on in the world. It also moves us to transform the material world, to see what is possible to dispose of, to decompose. Not to mention, the Sun and Moon are square Pluto. We could be coming to face some of our biggest fears, and with Taurus and Scorpio as the main themes, some of these fears have to deal with change, death, grief, and loss of control. It’s a bit heavy, but possibly an emotionally cathartic time.
Finally, Mercury stations direct on April 25th. What did you learn this month about how you assert yourself, where your anger comes from, and how to access your bravery?
☆ Announcements☆
Readings are still open but on a limited basis.
I released a music video last week for my song Melusine. It was a dream to make it, and my best friends got to be a part of it. The video was directed by Yiro Hu, who is one of my long-term collaborators and someone whose vision I deeply appreciate (I also acted in their short film Albedo, or Apples & Oranges). I hope you will watch and enjoy!
My booklet Blessed Leap is on view at the Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the exhibition “A Reflection on the Sublime.” It’s in great company, with artists I admire like Kazuna Taguchi, Nancy Lupo, Patricia L Boyd, and Trisha Donnelly, as well as singular and special works by Ryusei Kishida and Kunitaro Suda. I hope that if you are in the area, you will go see it.
Horoscopes:
Aries:
While you will certainly be taking on big actions, possibly decisive moves, on some risks, I would like to encourage you to make sure that you have made space for your shadow. There is no weakness in waffling, in wavering, saying yes, and then no, and then disappearing for some time. Don’t feel pushed into a fight just because you don’t want to seem weak.
April may also present some big opportunities for making money or finding a new stream of income.
Taurus:
There’s some strange things going on in your group and collective spaces, in your friendships. Perhaps there was a closeness, sense of home and belonging that now is beginning to fray. Or a commitment to it that is causing other things in your life to fade and dull out. I sense that this month, you’ll be facing some deep seated anger that has long needed to be expressed in relation to these themes (if this hasn’t already been a theme the last month already).
At the same time, you are hitting some true gold this month, maybe in terms of some (gift) money or just experiencing a period of deep self-worth and confidence to go your own way.
Gemini:
April may bring something up in terms of work, even a possible conflict with a boss or authority figure. Perhaps a path forward that you had begun to zoom forwards in meets a loud no, censuring measure. This is causing you to rethink your dreams and where you would like to invest your talents and skills.
On a side note, pay attention to what’s going in your dreams, and make sure to have a lot of solo brainstorming time. This may be hard because the other energy of the month is really bringing you out into the social realm, so balance is key.
Cancer:
A dream of the future, a belief that grounds you may be crumbling away at this time. Or if you are undergoing an educational project, this might be a source of some difficulties this month. Perhaps for some, you are just in a depressive period in general. Whatever it is, this mood permeates your work and what you are seeking to build. On a positive note, this month you could come across some really interesting people who you might want to build something with longterm, or who might at least provide the inspiration for some new ideas.
Leo
For some of you, you will be traveling, but others of you may be facing the boldness and bravery of Aries season in the realm of educational or faith-based spiritual pursuits. Underlying these themes is the very struggle of having faith and letting go. Can you accept that some things are not under your directorial/creative control? Interestingly enough, April also may show some very exciting signs of a blossoming in your career. You may gain the favor or attention of people who are willing to invest in your unique vision, as long as you don’t compromise or tone down your ideas, which are often ahead of their time.
Virgo
Perhaps you are considering how you can be a good partner (or potential partner). The answer to this question takes many forms, recently you might have considered tough love, detachment, more explicit guidelines and verbalized needs, caretaking, and cleaning up. This is Saturn speaking. When Mars enters Pisces, you may want to re-engage the other possibilities, the passion, action, excitement, and adventures, the highs and lows. As they meet this month, you ask, Is there room for all of this?
The eclipse actually takes place in your 6th house, so you will be experiencing this question in the realm of your everyday life and your health, maybe you hit a breaking point in how much you can hold together. Find a way to make space for compassion, not just for others but for yourself.
End of the month will instead be light and buoyant, galloping into the distance, in research and belief. Keep a tab on what reveals itself to you and what journeys you might make.
Libra
When you only have three hours of sleep, it’s very hard to work well, avoid mistakes. You need your rest, as much as you can get it. This month emphasizes the importance of tending to the body that is the foundation of our sensation, perception, and meaning-making in this life. Don’t push yourself into fitness or contort your body into flexibility. Be careful around bodies of water. This month might present a gambit, a chance to also get into the ring and fling yourself at someone (in love? In spite? I don’t know). The significant relationships in your life are all shifting around, rumbling inside and swallowing each other. If you see a spark, you can yell fire. But most importantly, sleep.
Scorpio
An altered state… creative fantasies … the dream of becoming an artist. There is no escape from the dream this month, one that has deeply ensnared you. A beautiful mirage that turns into a nightmare, a sweet lover who turns into a berating taskmaster, you know the weight of what you want. That what you desire has power over you. This month is about finding the pace to do the things you need to do to reach your desires while being detached from that desire, otherwise described as walking towards the sun while looking down at the ground.
There’s also something very beautiful about possible love connections for you this month. Something unexpected, or an injection of newness in an existing relationship.
Sagittarius
For the past year, I have consistently written about the theme of home for Sagittariuses. I wonder how this theme has played out. April may be a very big month for understanding this theme. You may take a journey home or you may need to make a big investment. There’s even a chance that some maintenance or duty around your home ends up affecting a romantic relationship or creative project.
On a separate note, this month might be the beginning of a new cycle around work, health, and general lifestyle patterns. You may begin to harbor new dreams or really make the jump to begin a new life.
Capricorn
Whatever you have been toiling with, in travel, writing, communication, local community. It is hitting a higher frequency this month. I highly recommend leaving extra time on the road when you travel and avoiding bodies of water at this time. A lot of these responsibilities and limitations and possible rejections ultimately will impact a concept of home, and how you see where you want to root. On a different note, you are in a wave of ingenuity around creative processes and romantic explorations. This is a special time for getting onto the paper the flashes of insight and inspiration.
Aquarius
Money might often be something that feels less material to you than to other people. Oftentimes it feels like a flow, coming and going, the rules unknown. While the essence of money may really be more like water, uncountable, it doesn’t mean you can’t make containers to best steward the resources that are available to you. This month will teach you some important lessons around this, so that you can have the kind of community you want. On a separate note, this month may also usher you into a new kind of living arrangement or a new conception of home and heritage. You may want to revamp things.
Pisces
April may be a bit glum, more gray and less buoyant than other times. The main goal is to allow yourself to see where you are strong, where you still need to train, and where the resistance is. That’s not fun, but it doesn’t have to be awful. The arenas this will take place are in 1, your self-confidence, and 2, your relationship to money. On a positive note, this month will bring a lot of insight and inspiration, especially to your writing, your relationship to your local neighborhood, and possible opportunities to travel.
